It's long been known that volcanism can dramatically alter the climate, often in cataclysmic ways. For instance, mass extinctions such as the one at the end of the Permian period may have been caused by continuous volcanic eruptions that cooled the climate and poisoned the atmosphere and the seas.

For several years, the negotiations have proceeded largely within two tracks: the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP), which was launched in 2005 to negotiate a second round of Kyoto emission targets for developed countries; and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action (AWG-LCA), which was launched in 2007 with the aim of a broader “agreed outcome” also encompassing the United States, which is not a Kyoto party, and developing countries.

December 6, 2012 at the high segment of the conference on Climate Change in Doha performances by the heads of delegations from around the world, including the CIS countries: Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Belarus. There was no statement on behalf of the delegations of Tajikistan, as indicated in the program.

Saturday, December 8, 2012 with a delay of one day concluded another round of talks on climate change under the UN Convention on Climate Change. Authoritarian decision of the President of the Conference of Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah final documents were adopted as one package. Despite some violations of diplomatic ethics, the decision was met with applause from observers. Russia comments were not heard, and therefore the Russian delegation expressed its strong opposition ..

It is time for the judiciary to step in and avert climate catastrophe

Military reports warn our governments of the impending problem of oil decline, endangering western society. Science informs our politicians that we have only a few years left to avert dangerous climate change. Still, the public is largely unaware and uninformed about these issues. But the sound functioning of democracy demands an informed public. Democracy also assumes that a government is capable of exercising its decision-making authority and of actually protecting citizens when and as it is needed. Since all of this is no longer true, the democratic order is under siege and it is time for the judiciary to step in.
