Saturday, December 8, 2012 with a delay of one day concluded another round of talks on climate change under the UN Convention on Climate Change. Authoritarian decision of the President of the Conference of Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah final documents were adopted as one package. Despite some violations of diplomatic ethics, the decision was met with applause from observers. It is time for the judiciary to step in and avert climate catastrophe

Military reports warn our governments of the impending problem of oil decline, endangering western society. Science informs our politicians that we have only a few years left to avert dangerous climate change. Still, the public is largely unaware and uninformed about these issues. But the sound functioning of democracy demands an informed public. Democracy also assumes that a government is capable of exercising its decision-making authority and of actually protecting citizens when and as it is needed. Since all of this is no longer true, the democratic order is under siege and it is time for the judiciary to step in.

Nuclear power will only play a limited role in the world's energy future because of its "absurdly high" cost, Al Gore said on Thursday.

Despite several countries, including the US, UK and China, pushing forward with plans for new nuclear reactors, the former vice-president said the economics of nuclear meant that it was unlikely to play a major role.
